SELLO JANTJIES

A Story of Hope, Growth, and Triumph

When Sello was just five years old, his life took a turn that would shape his future forever. Born in the heart of Lesotho, Sello lived with his parents, where life was simple but filled with daily challenges. His parents worked hard, but financial difficulties made it nearly impossible to make ends meet. Faced with limited opportunities, they made a brave decision – to leave behind the familiar and seek a better future in South Africa.

Their journey led them to Pretoria. We welcomed his family with open arms and offered Sello’s parents employment, helping them find stability and purpose. It was a new beginning.

Sello, unable to converse in English or Afrikaans, was enrolled in an excellent local pre-school, and through a lot of hard work, he adapted slowly but surely to garner a good education. Then he was enrolled at a local Afrikaans Primary School, where he threw himself into school life with enthusiasm and determination. He joined the school play and the choir. In Grade 7, he was chosen as a student leader, a reflection of the respect and admiration he had earned from both peers and teachers.

But Sello didn’t only excel in the arts and leadership. His athletic talent was undeniable. He made the first team in both rugby and hockey, proving to be a fierce yet humble competitor on the field. He also discovered a love for Judo, dedicating hours to training. His hard work paid off when he earned gold at the National Judo Trials in his category, a moment of triumph that left the whole school, and everyone at uSport, beaming with pride. uSport is proud to support Sello in achieving a better future.
